Puppy Foundation Course

All classes run over a six week course for dogs aged under 18 weeks at the start of the course. Pre booking is essential as places are limited to a maximum of 8 puppies at Kempshott and 6 puppies at Oakley.
This limit enables each puppy and handler to receive individual help with every exercise whilst ensuring an effective start to puppy socialisation.
The Puppy Foundation Course is the first level of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme and on successful completion of the course a certificate and rosette is awarded. There is NO TEST at the end of the course, achievements are simply recorded by your trainer on an assessment record sheet. The following exercises are examples of some things that are covered:
· Responsibility and care
· Cleanliness and identification
· Attentive response to name
· Play
· Socialisation
· Handling and inspection
· Recall
· Sit/down/stand
· Lead walking
· Food manners
The environment is intended to be relaxed and non-competitive. Puppy training sessions are intended to be fun for you and your dog while the dog learns socialisation skills and you both have an opportunity to practice effective dog/human communication skills (which is often not as straight forward as we might think!!). There is usually a lot of laughter as well as learning!!
The cost for this 6 week course is £70. This price increase will take effect for all courses with start dates on or after April 1st 2010. The increased rise in the cost of Hall hire and Insurance forces these increased costs (our first for 5 years).
Also included is:
* Free bag of James Wellbeloved puppy food
* Food measuring cup and treat bag.
* Handouts dealing with common problems
* Telephone support during and after the course

Some puppies enjoy learning so much that they do their own homework in between the classes!!
This is 'Cassie' Bayliss aged 6 months.
