One to One Training & Behavioural Problems

One to One Training
Some common training problems are:
Jumping up
Pulling on the lead
Not coming when called
Control exercises - sit/stay/down/leave etc.
For some people, individual training sessions with their animals may be preferable. Reasons may include work commitments, not feeling comfortable in a class situation, having a dog with very specific training needs etc. Sometimes it is simply the flexibility of one to one training that clients prefer. Some people with animals new to them, wether puppies or older rehomed dogs, request individual sessions to cover a range of topics related to thier care as well as for specific training exercises. While every effort is made to cover advice or problems in a class situation, time may be limited. Private lessons can be tailored to suit individual people and animals more specifically.
Behavioural Advice (Dogs and other pets)
Some common canine behavioural problems are:
Persistent barking
Separation anxiety
Incomplete housetraining
Nervous of people/other dogs
For pets with behaviour problems that require more than straight forward training advice, behavioural consultations can be arranged for a more in depth assessment of the problem(s).
Behavioural consultations require veterinary referral as some animal behaviour problems can be caused by an underlying physical condition. It is therefore important to check this out with your vet in the first instance. Another reason for including your vet in this process is that should an animal require medication as well as behavioural therapy, only a veterinary surgeon can prescribe these drugs for your pet.
Once your vet has checked that your pet has no underlying physical cause for its behavioural problem and sends me written confirmation of this, I can arrange to meet with you to assess and advise on your pets behaviour.
Following a behavioural consultation, a written report is completed and sent to you with recommendations for a behaviour modification programme (where appropriate). A copy of this is also sent to your vet to keep them informed of the programme that has been advised. Ongoing support for clients and their animals is always offered, wether by email, phone or in person.
If you are experiencing behavioural problems with one of your pets but are unsure whether you need help with training , behavioural assesment, or a combination of the two, please feel free to contact me to discuss your problem.
Solving animal behaviour problems does not necessarliy have a 'quick fix' solution. Often a lot of time, effort and commitment is required to help animals in our care. An awareness of and respect for the emotional and physical requirements of animals, can result in much more effective and rewarding results for all involved in the rehabilitation process.
